You do not need any additional software on the Clients - you only need administrative privileges on the target system. Install the .NET-Framework in the version 1.1 on our PC, afterwards ipCompiler. Ipcompiler pings each IP address to check if its alive, then optionally it is resolving hostname, MAC-Address and - if you have admin. privileges at the targetmachine - notification about: CPU, OS, Servicepack, logged user and much more.
