Paint.NET

Paint.NET is image and photo manipulation software designed to be used on computers that run XP, Server 2003 or Vista. It started development at Washington State University as an undergraduate senior design project mentored by Microsoft, and is currently being maintained by some of the alumni that originally worked on it. It is meant to be a free replacement for the MS Paint software that comes with all Windows operating systems.

Paint.NET has many of the powerful features that expensive commercial applications have, including the ability to use layers. We welcome any suggestions, and provide the source code for final releases under the MIT License.

This application is very useful to view all kind of image types and to edit them. It has a lot of useful editing features for a free software. You can choose the unit of measurement between pixels, inches and centimeters. Is supporting undo and redo for previous tasks. You can rotate, flip, resize or get a canvas portion of your image.

Can add new layers, duplicate existing ones or even import from an external file. Adjust bright and contrast, curves, HUE and saturation, invert colors or posterize.

Plenty of useful effects are available to apply easily and to customize them: artistic, blur, distort, noise, render or stylize. Can manage fonts and view interface in many languages.

In red side of interface you have a history of latest operations that has been done, also in left you have a window with tools (very useful) and one with the entire palette of colors to choose quickly the desired one (or to test it).
